It’s summer camp time for tens of thousands of children throughout the United States. And Cypress Cove at HealthPark Florida – not wishing to be left behind in the summer camp craze – hosted on July 7 a unique one-day summer camp for children of employees and grandchildren of its Life Plan Community residents.
The one-day camp was limited to employee and resident children and grandchildren. Camp participants were treated outside to an educational nature walk through Cypress Cove’s Native Plant Garden and raised gardens, a mini-scavenger hunt, and a first-hand lesson on the fine points of radio-controlled sail boating.
Indoor camp activities included such things as an exercise class, wind-chime craft making, and Sub-Zero ice cream making. Other camp activities included games and lunch.
“Camp Cypress Cove was an impactful one day experience for both residents and campers. It gave residents and staff an opportunity to share with the children the wonderful and varied lifestyle available on our 48-acre campus,” explained Resident Services Director Mary Franklin.
The free one-day camp event was created by Cypress Cove’s independent living activities’ office team with an emphasis on intergenerational participation among campus residents and participating children.
“Cypress Cove,” explains Franklin, “participates in numerous intergenerational activities annually reaching out to youth programs throughout the surrounding Southwest Florida community. Camp Cypress Cove is a unique and valuable addition to our resident outreach program.”
