March 8, 2023Cypress Cove Participates in Read Across America Program at The Heights Charter School
FORT MYERS, Fla. (March 2, 2023) Cypress Cove residents and team members joined forces with The Heights Charter School to participate in the annual Read Across America program. The program aims to promote literacy among children by encouraging them to read and providing them with access to books.
The Cypress participants, some of whom are former educators, spent the morning reading to students of all ages, from kindergarten to fifth grade. They shared their love of books and the importance of reading with the young learners, who were excited to listen and learn from the experienced readers.
Community Advancement Officer Melody Desilets shared her experience of the day, saying, “It was wonderful to be able to spend time with the students and share my passion for reading with them. I could see the joy on their faces as they listened to the stories, and it was truly rewarding to be a small part of their learning experience.”
Cypress Cove’s volunteer experiences are organized by Darlene Chamlee Smith, Community Advancement and Volunteer Coordinator.
The Read Across America program is a nationwide initiative that takes place each year on March 2nd, which is also the birthday of the beloved children’s author Dr. Seuss. The program is designed to motivate children to read and help them develop a love of books that will last a lifetime.
