Cypress at Home, Cypress Cove and Cypress Living teamed up to provide a week-long skills clinic in March for all Cypress clinical staff. More than 200 team members participated to complete their annual state competencies required for all skilled nursing and home health professionals. Although not required by the state, assisted living staff participated to learn or perfect many valuable skills as well.
The event was held in Edison Hall on the Cypress Cove campus, coordinated by Jonathan Grady, RN, Clinical Educator of Cypress at Home and Mary Freyre, RN, Clinical Educator & Risk Manager for Cypress Cove and Cypress Living.
“We want to thank all the nurses, nursing assistants, home health aides, and household assistants for their dedication and attendance,” said Mary Freyre. “Not only did the skills week clinic keep our staff in compliance with the state, but it also allowed learning opportunities for new staff and was a refresher for many others.”
Examples of clinical competencies include knowledge of best practices in:
• Fall prevention
• Gait belts and transfers
• HIPAA compliance
• Infection control
• Ostomy care
• Safety
• Tube feeding
This event could not have been held without the support from a multitude of people, especially the independent living residents who graciously shared Edison Hall for a whole week. It takes a team and a village to help our Cypress family grow!
Special thanks to Tammy Littrell and Keeona Linder from Cypress at Home for taking time out of their busy work schedules to help check in clinicians and man the competency stations. Special thanks to Ena Karat CNA at The Inn, Danielle Schaaf, RN, Administrator, Maribeth Barry and Kathy Van Horn. Thanks to all the admin staff as well for helping to make our first Skills Week a success!
