Staff Profile: Walter Raurau, 20+ Years of Service

Walter Raurau, maintenance technician II, enjoys a variety of tasks and helping people. He moved to Florida from New York in his early 20s and has grown his career at Cypress Cove for more than 20 years.

He started in January 2000 in a part-time position in dining services. It didn’t take long for him to move into a full-time maintenance position in the beautiful new luxury senior living community.

“Walter is very well-liked by the residents,” says his supervisor, Jennifer Porr. “He makes himself available when needed, volunteers to work extra hours, and his attendance is impeccable. He receives a lot of compliments from the residents praising his customer service skills.”

A variety of tasks is one of the aspects of the job Walter welcomes. He has cross trained in all the buildings at Cypress Cove but works mostly at The Harbour. He paints, repairs drywall, touches up furniture, performs electrical work, and helps residents with minor repairs in their apartment. He also assists with smoke alarm maintenance and padding elevators when furniture is being moved.

Walter likes the family environment and great benefits at Cypress Cove. “In my experience, you can have a good career here,” he said. “I feel appreciated.”
