Congratulations to Tyrone Mclean, a long-term certified nursing assistant (CNA) working as a med tech in The Inn at Cypress Cove, our 44-bed assisted living community. He was recognized by the Florida Assisted Living Association (FALA) with their annual Hero of Hope Award! FALA selects one candidate a year to receive this honor. They describe the recipient as “a shining star who always provides positivity to make others’ dim lights shine brighter.” That’s Tyrone!
Tyrone, like many of our staff, is very passionate about the work he does providing person-centered care. For that reason, we nominated him for FALA’s Hero of Hope Award—and were thrilled to learn he would receive it at FALA’s annual conference.
Tyrone stands out in many aspects. As a military veteran, he applies the core values of respect, leadership and dignity to everything he does. Tyrone is vigilant in all day-to-day moments, always watching and analyzing the best course of action to solve problems or to make any situation better.
The residents in The Inn see him as someone who knows many small details that make a big difference in their day. His coworkers see Tyrone as a person they can turn to for guidance. He knows the answers and is always available to help.
Heroes are not always equipped with everything they can possibly need for every situation. They, too, must occasionally put their pride aside and ask for assistance, and Tyrone does that. Those instances are comforting to the other staff because, like them, they see that we are all humans and need one another to get the job done.
Tyrone is personable and caring. He is ready at a moment’s notice and is always safety minded. He understands what is expected and continues to raise the bar. He is efficient and most importantly, he is GREATHEARTED!
We nominated Tyrone for the Hero of Hope award because he conveys all the characteristics of a person who lives their life as a true hero. The magic of those qualities makes the team stronger and keeps the community we serve comfortable and safe. That is what we all wish and want for our loved ones. Here at Cypress Cove, we have a true hero, Tyrone Mclean.
