Cypress Cove remote non-contact monitoring

Cypress Cove independent living resident Chuck Gagnier shows the unobtrusive Keenly VMA that was installed above his bed when he was recovering from an illness in February.

To provide value, safety and security to residents, Cypress at Home has added the Keenly Virtual Medical Assistant™ (VMA) to the in-house resident medical support program.

The Keenly VMA is a non-contact resident monitoring system that discreetly and constantly monitors vital signs and movement. Health data is securely transmitted to the Keenly digital system, which the medical team can view from anywhere using their smartphone, tablet or PC. The patented UWB radar solution continuously monitors residents in their beds with no intrusive wearables, attachments or patient compliance required.

“Every Cypress Cove resident is unique. With the Keenly VMA we are able to customize each resident’s respiration range and alert thresholds,” said VP of Innovation Joe Velderman. “Based on this data, the Keenly UWB radar system is then able to detect early signs of health deterioration, which can help the care team make appropriate interventions to best help the resident.”

With the demographic changes occurring over the coming years, the needs of older adults are growing. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated the need for digital tools to keep care staff informed without requiring an in-person visit. The Keenly device is a welcome addition to keeping residents as safe and healthy as possible.
