Abbott Named to Philanthropy Post

Allen Abbott has been named Community Advancement Specialist for the south Fort Myers continuing care retirement community of Cypress Cove at HealthPark Florida.

Abbott is responsible for developing Cypress Cove’s fund raising, major donor efforts, planned giving and capital campaign fund raising. The 48-acre campus with a full complement of quality living options, most recently opened a 3,500 square foot public-use physical therapy rehabilitation center and one this state’s most innovative and advanced memory care assisted living households, The Cottage at Cypress Cove.

Cypress Cove Executive Director Michele Wasserlauf and Resident Services Director Mary Franklin applauded the appointment of Abbott noting that he brings extensive experience in not-for-profit development and in the creation of successful philanthropic campaigns.

He has schooled at several universities including Indiana University and Emory University where he earned certifications in financial planning, fundraising and fundraising management. Abbott also has bachelor’s degrees communications, business and philosophy.

Abbott’s career has been filled with successful leadership in philanthropy and media/marketing. His financial planning roles have included executive roles in New York and Atlanta for MMBB Financial Services and he recently served as executive director of the Columbus, Ga. American Red Cross chapter.

Abbott and his wife are relocating from Kentucky to Fort Myers. The highly sociable advancement specialist possesses what he calls an “insatiable appetite for learning, adventure, the fine arts and ice hockey.”
